Michael is a young star from Puntagorda, a small and beautiful town at 755m above sea level on the island of La Palma, Canary Islands. At only 23 years of age, Candelario is the guardian of the island’s youngest winemaking entity. He is an example of the rural Spain that is not ashamed of its heritage, that seeks to recover its roots and preserve its cultural heritage.
“My family has always been dedicated to agriculture and viticulture. We have always had vineyards and I remember watching my parents and grandfather make wine when I was nine years old. At that time, I didn’t work in the field because it was too small, but I was treading grapes,’ Michael says. We are just starting out and today we have a production of about 1,660 bottles of red and another 1,405 of white. It is a very small production, but I think we have great quality. It is wine fermented in French oak barrels. We work outdoors and cultivate the vines in the most environmentally friendly way possible and without the use of herbicides. I try to intervene in the environment as little as possible.”
